NorCal Honey Badgers Softball vs Oakland Vipers

CF #11 Civannah Joseph
Last week the NorCal Honey Badgers played their first game (scrimmage) as a team against the Oakland Vipers 18U(Keener). The game was held on Sunday June 9th 4pm at Thrasher Park in San Leandro, CA. This was an important day for the Honey Badgers because it marked the first time the 18U team played together. The atmosphere was very positive the both teams and was a great day to find out what we had to offer as a new team. With only three practices under their belt the Honey Badgers opened the game with visitor status against the Vipers. To lead off the 1st inning was Center Fielder Civannah Joseph of Hayward High who reached first base on balls. Next up to bat was Left Fielder Khalaylah Joseph of Holy Names High School (Oakland). K. Joseph took first pitch strike to allow Civannah Joseph to successfully steal 2nd base. With an 0-1 count Khalaylah Joseph connected on the second pitch with nice deep fly ball to right center for a stand up double allowing Civannah Joseph to easily score from second base. 3rd batter up was SS Allie Davis of Redwood Christian High School. Davis took 1st pitch strike to allow K. Joseph to steal 3rd base against the Vipers. Very next pitch Davis hit a line shot single in the gap between short and second to bring in K. Joseph for the Honey Badgers 2nd run. Alley Davis followed up with stealing 2nd and 3rd to apply the pressure and keep things moving for the Honey Badgers in the 1st inning. Infielder Gabby Lopez of San Lorenzo High School reached 1st by HBP, and soon after contributed to another stolen base for the Honey Badgers. With Lopez on second base Catcher Deysi Arechiga of Holy Names High School (Oakland) followed suit with a single right center driving in Davis and Lopez for 2 RBI single making it a 4 run inning. Arechiga ultimately scored on a pass ball for the 5th run of the inning.

Defensively Pitcher Chantel Everett San Leandro High School opened the game from the circle facing Vipers Utility player M. Tang of Oakland Tech High School. Everett walked Tang then gave up a hit to the #2 batter of the Vipers. Solid defensive play by Honey Badgers 2nd Base lady Abby Parker Holy Names High School (Oakland) for routine fly to make out 1. SS Allie Davis contributed to out 2 & 3 with smooth play at short. The Honey Badgers escaped the inning allowing 2 runs from the Vipers.

Stand out Defensive Play by the following Honey Badgers: 3rd base lady Lawren Bartlett for making some nice plays at the hot spot corner totaling 3 Put outs. Allie Davis and Gabby Lopez for turning a pair of Double Plays in College Style Fashion. P/1st Base Lady Danielle Pacheco San Leandro High School for 4 innings pitching and only giving up 4 hits. Right Fielder Daisy Romo of Fremont High School (Oakland) for contributing with 3 put outs to help the Honey Badgers maintain a respectful demonstration against the Oakland Vipers.

The Norcal Honey Badgers would like to thank the families that came out and supported us for our 1st game as a team! We would also like to thank Coach Paul Keener of the Oakland Vipers for inviting us to play a friendly game at his home field. Without this it would have been very difficult to evaluate our strengths and weaknesses as a team leading into Tournament Play this summer. GO BADGERS!
